Homeopathic flu favorites
‘Tis the holiday season but also the season for flu and other respiratory viruses too
I’m wishing you wellness this holiday season and would like to help you support your health with homeopathic remedies during this flu season. My FullScript store is participating in the Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales, and I’ve made a Favorites collection of homeopathic remedies for flu season in my store to help you easily find the remedies I’m recommending here.
So take a look at your medicine cabinet, because this weekend is a good time to replenish your stock. You’ll save money, and I’ll make a small percentage on the sale, which means you’re supporting homeopathic pharmacies and a small woman-owned business. I call that a win-win-win!
Feel free to shop around and purchase any other supplements that you may need. You can’t go wrong with immune support like vitamin C and zinc this time of year. Whether you make a purchase or not, you might want to bookmark this blog post in case you need it later. And, as always, reach out to schedule an acute consultation if you need help matching remedies. We’ll both be glad you have these on hand.
Future resistance and symptom recovery
These two products are great for bolstering your resistance to flu and speeding up recovery with reduced symptoms. I love these products because they allow your body to go through flu and flu-like illnesses efficiently and effectively without masking symptoms or creating unwanted side effects. And because homeopathic remedies are serially diluted, they are safe to take with other medications and supplements.
Oscillococcinum
For short, we just call it “awe-sill-oh” because it’s awe-some-oh! It has been shown in clinical studies such as this one to help reduce both the duration and severity of flu-like symptoms, such as body aches, headache, fever, chills, and fatigue. Another study suggests that Oscillo has a preventive effect on the onset of respiratory tract infections and improves the health status of individuals who suffer from respiratory disease. So it’s bolstering your resistance to not only the flu but also RSV and any other circulating respiratory viruses this season. It’s safe for adults and children. To aid with future resistance and recovery, take 10-15 pellets once weekly. For temporary relief of symptoms, take 10-15 pellets, every 6 hours, up to 3 times a day.
Flu Nosode by Professional Formulas
The flu nosode is a homeopathic product made from the predominant circulating flu strains, which have been inactivated and serially diluted in 20% alcohol and water. For adults and children 12 years and over. To aid with future resistance and recovery, take 10 to 15 drops once weekly or monthly. Or for temporary relief of symptoms, take 10 drops up to 3 times per day. FullScript tends to sell out of this one quickly, so if it’s out of stock, you can also buy it directly from Professional Formulas by creating an account and entering my code: QKZ176P
Remedies for flu and flu-like symptoms
I mostly added the 200c potency to my Favorites collection because I feel it better matches the energetic intensity of the flu, but a 30c works too. You might just want both potencies. I’m naming quite a few remedies here so figure out which you already own and think about how you and your family experienced the flu the last time. I’ve also highlighted the must-own individual flu remedies.
ColdCalm and Children’s ColdCalm
Okay, I get as a homeopath I should be encouraging you to match symptoms and find the best remedy for the job. However, I’m also a mom and a realist. When kids wake up miserable in the middle of the night and everyone is exhausted, sometimes a combination remedy is needed for sanity’s sake. Then the next morning once everyone has rested a bit, you can match or have an acute consultation. These tiny tubes are also perfect for travel. I can’t tell you how many times a family member has gotten sick while on a road trip or staying with relatives. Sometimes it’s just more convenient to stash a tube of Coldcalm in your purse.
Ferrum phosphoricum cell salt
You’ll want to take/give ferrum phos at the first sniffle or sign that a fever is coming on. This remedy relieves low-grade fever and congestion and reduces inflammation. Once symptoms are more defined, you’ll want to move on to another remedy listed here. I’ve included both the quick-dissolve tablets and the drops in my collection for this cell salt.
Aconite
This remedy is for the flu that comes on suddenly, often in the middle of the night, after exposure to dry, cold weather. The person’s skin feels dry and hot and they may be restless and fearful.
Arsenicum Album
This remedy is for people who feel chilly, exhausted, weak, anxious, and restless. They may have burning gastric symptoms and want somebody by their side.
Belladonna
Like Aconite, this remedy is for high fevers that come on quickly. The face may be flushed red and eyes glassy and the person might have sensitivity to light and noise.
Bryonia
This is a classic flu remedy. Symptoms come on slowly with a severe, throbbing headache that is worse for the slightest movement. The person is irritable and wants to lie still and be left alone.
Eupatorium Perfoliatum
This remedy is for pains so severe it feels as if the bones were broken. The person may moan and groan with body aches and feel worse for any movement.
Gelsemium
This is our number 1 flu remedy. Symptoms come on slowly. The person may have chills and say their head and eyelids feel heavy. They may be fatigued, weak, shaky, dizzy, and drowsy.
Mercurius Solubulis
This remedy is for flu with a sore throat and excess saliva. Lymph glands in the neck are sore and swollen. The person is very sensitive to drafts of air and slight temperature changes.
Natrum Muriaticum
Along with Pulsatilla, this remedy helps with loss of taste and smell. The person might sweat lightly around the hairline with fever and develop cold sores on the lips.
Nux Vomica
This remedy is for the flu that comes on after exposure to damp, cold weather. The person has a stuffed-up nose. Easily chilled. Must be completely covered with blankets during fever. May want to vomit but can’t.
Pulsatilla
This remedy is for people who feel emotional and weepy during illness and wants somebody to comfort them. They have thick yellow, green discharges. No thirst. Possible loss of taste and smell.
Phosphorus
A less common flu remedy, but if the person needs it, they’ll be chilly but want ice water. They may enjoy company and desire affection while ill but start to become anxious around twilight. They may also feel constriction in the chest.
Rhus Toxicodendron
This remedy is for fever with restlessness. The person is constantly moving and shifting positions in an attempt to relieve stiffness and achiness.
