Homeostasis is coming back home to yourself
Homeostasis is coming back home to yourself. 🎉
It's the hero's journey in storytelling or the fool's journey in the tarot.
We may long to "get back" to the way things were when we were in good health.
But we can never travel the same path back. The journey to health isn’t linear.
As health practitioners, we often use the metaphor of a pendulum to describe moving away from and returning to the center.
Here’s the rub: we can't solve problems using the same kind of thinking we used to create them. (Thanks, Einstein!).
Today I want you to imagine your health journey as a concentric circle. In the center is our highest self, the self that is aligned with your soul purpose and harnesses this energetic ease to move through the world for the highest good. Our earthly self is orbiting closely to this center. When we're in this place, the wheel of fortune can shift and we barely register the blip. We're bolstered by resiliency.
Every time we move away from our center and out of alignment, our soul will manifest a message to us through symptoms to let us know we are off course. Forces can move us even away further from the center because our position is wobbly, off-kilter.
The trick is that we can't course-correct by just reversing, avoiding, or stopping. Yes, we can and should take corrective actions such as nutrition changes, physical therapy, etc. But we'll still have to address the subtle stressors that have affected us energetically.
The only path forward is through. We have to make a complete revolution around the mountain to grow in awareness and integrate the lessons we've learned along the way. When we do, we come back home to ourselves, with the magic elixir of self-knowledge.
Homeostasis is a homecoming, it's a knowing that we are more ourselves than before. This is where our frequencies “sync up” and waves of resonance or coherence are felt. There’s a feeling of belonging to ourselves. Our biochemistry may even reflect this milestone.
I see this as the Four of Wands card in the tarot. When we arrive at this point, we should take the opportunity to celebrate the progress that we’ve made. Take joy in connecting with our higher selves and appreciate this moment of balance and perfected work.
We should savor the moment because the order, stability, and foundation that we’ve created will only serve for a time. Center is a resting point before we begin another revolution around the mountain, the next personal evolution.
Homeostasis is harmony between the head and the heart.
